LISA
MILROY (1959)
Vancouver, Canada
Lisa Milroy was born in 1959 in
Vancouver, Canada and moved to London in 1979 to
study at St Martin’s School of Art and Goldsmiths, University of
London, graduating in
1982.
Milroy was shortlisted for the Jerwood Painting Prize in 2001
and was awarded the Hugh
Cassen Drawing Prize in 2004. She won the John Moores Prize for
Painting in 1989. Elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in 2006,
Milroy has travelled extensively in connection with her work,
including undertaking residencies in Beijing, Taiwan and Japan,
the influence of which can be seen clearly in much of her work.
Milroy is Head of Graduate Painting at the Slade School of Fine
Art, UCL. She lives and
works in London and is represented by the Alan Cristea Gallery.
