Stream of Fire: New Art from Armenia
is a 132-page beautifully illustrated exhibition
catalogue with more
than eighty colour reproductions of the works of leading post-Soviet
Armenian artists. The catalogue, published in 1995, accompanied the Pharos Trust’s inaugural event – an art exhibition which took place
within the context of European Cultural Month Nicosia, Cyprus in
September/October 1995. One of the first books on contemporary art
from Armenia, the catalogue highlighted the country’s new and
exciting artistic talent as it made its transition from Soviet rule.
Includes works by
13 artists including;
Sarkis Hamalbashian, Ashod Bayandour, Marcos Grigorian
, Armen Kevorkian, Arman Grigorian, Achot Achot
The accompanying text includes a critical essay
by the President of the Pharos Trust, Garo Keheyan, an overview of
twentieth-century art in Armenia by Nouritza Matossian (author of a
biography on Arshile Gorky) entitled ‘Into the Sun - Armenian Art as
Survival’, and a profile of each artist by award-winning British
author, Philip Marsden.
This attractive catalogue, designed by Herman
Lelie - a leading art book designer and printed by Mariogros Italy -
would make an invaluable addition to any art collection, private
library, university or reference library.
